Tamil Nadu bull tamers, owners upbeat but no govt prizes for jallikattu in 2025
MADURAI: The state govt's decision to refrain from awarding high-value prizes like cars and bikes for jallikattu participants this year has been welcomed widely. The govt's aim is to prioritize the cultural essence of the sport and minimize conflicts among participants.
Disputes arose last year between the first and second prize winners in Alanganallur jallikattu which was even dragged to the court. However, organizers and donors will continue the tradition of presenting prizes to players and bulls, maintaining the celebratory spirit of the event without the state's involvement in high-value rewards. With just two weeks left for the jallikattu event in Madurai, bull tamers and owners are busy preparing for the grand occasion.
